We have been patiently awaiting the emergence of our Monarch caterpillars in our classroom. Yesterday we were able to capture one of our caterpillars emerging from its chrysalis via time lapse photography. Luckily it emerged just before it got dark so we could see it in action. The class was pretty excited to see this happen.
This week is an exciting week here at Albany Elementary. It is Homecoming week! This morning (Monday) we will have members from the Homecoming court visiting our classroom. Each day this week we will have a different them to help celebrate and share our Purple Pride.
In addition, we also had our own little Homecoming button design project. Below you will find a picture with just a few of the awesome buttons that we designed. We will also be making a few posters to decorate our lockers and classroom. Go Huskies! This week we will have our first Math test of the year. Chapter 1 is on place value to the millions place, ordering and comparing numbers, and rounding numbers. To allow for some review time, we will most likely test on Thursday. In reading we are on week 3 of unit 1. This week the skill we will be working on is comparing and contrasting. As we have become more accustomed to our routines this year we have gotten some great opportunities to share our learning and thinking with each other. As a teacher I strive to provide as many cooperative learning opportunities to my students as possible. Today we were able to work in groups in math class. Currently we are studying place value to the millions place. In the next week or so we will begin to compare numbers using the >, <, and = symbols. Studying place value will give us the necessary base to build from for comparing numbers.
Im blown away at how readily and easily this class works with one another even though we havent completed a full 2 weeks together yet. This group is capable of great things working together, which is a skill that will benefit them years from now when they enter the workforce. Keep it up! Our school year is off to a great start. We had to wait until our 2nd day of school to take a picture with the newly installed Huskie statue that sits across the parking lot between the new BEAT and BECC facilities. I believe that we were the very first class to take our picture with the statue!
We are currently working hard on building community in our classroom and setting classroom expectations and protocols. Please check back often as this webpage will contain updates and will continue to be improved as our year rolls on. Please contact me with any questions you may have throughout the year. |
