We have been working very hard these past few weeks. This group has really hit their stride and is working very well together. Our class has been doing very well with our Pawsitive Pride expectations that we rolled out school wide this fall.
In math we are currently in the middle of our data unit. Our focus has been on median, mode, range, and outliers. Included in our data unit is interpreting different graphs and tables such as tally charts, line plots, and bar graphs. Right now we are starting to tackle probability using the terms certain, likely, equally likely, not likely, and impossible.
In our reading curriculum we have spent the last few weeks on main idea and will spend the next few weeks studying theme. As we are nearing the end of the first trimester that means we are also closing in on A.R. reading goals. Many students have already met their set goal and there a bunch of us who are very close. With Veterans Day coming up we will also be creating and writing thank you cards for Veterans in our lives and in our communities.
In science we having been building our background knowledge in the area of matter. We will be getting into the exciting stuff, the experimenting, in the coming weeks.
Please take a moment to look at the picture album on the website. I have updated it with pictures from our pumpkin carving extravaganza which was a huge success. We had so much fun carving those pumpkins and with all the parent volunteers it was a great afternoon. We want to thank all the parents who took time out of their busy schedules to come in and share in the experience with us. One of the kids said, "We should carve pumpkins everyday!"
One last note, please be sure that your child is prepared for the changing weather conditions. We all know Minnesota can change greatly from hour to hour. The cold temps are here already (unfortunately) and a warm coat, hat, and gloves are a must to stay warm.
